FREQUENTLY ASKED INTERIOR HOUSE PAINTING QUESTIONS
What will I need to do to prepare for interior house painting with a professional painter?
The short answer: not much. As professional painters, we will do most of the preparation for you before painting. Things like cleaning the walls, removing outlet covers, masking, and taping are all part of what we do. If you have a lot of art on your walls, we do suggest you take it down and store it safely as you may want to take extra care in boxing and bubble-wrapping delicate items and family mementos. This is not labor intensive and you may enjoy spending some extra time with your items. Extra pre-painting vacuuming if you have pets can also be helpful.
Will I need to move my furniture before painting inside my house?
You might be surprised how much more time it takes to paint around furniture than it does to move it. If you need assistance, talk to us first because we want your interior house painting experience to be as easy on you as possible. However, furniture sliders can be a great shortcut in moving large pieces out of the way so that we don’t have to work around things or spend extra time covering them up to protect them. We can help you make a strategy plan for which rooms to paint and when so you can coordinate furniture into a staging/storage area.
How long will it take to paint the inside of my house?
This is different for everyone. If your home has furniture for us to work around, or if it is empty; if there are repairs needed; the size of the home; the condition of the current paint; the material(s) of the walls… this is a very long list of variables. The best way to find out is with a free, no obligation quote from us! Click here to get a free estimate for professional interior house painting from Trombley Painting.
Will my kids and/or pets be safe around the fresh paint inside my house?
If you’re concerned about fumes from the paint, we can paint inside your home with low-VOC or no-VOC paint. VOC stands for volatile organic compounds and are some of the most harmful chemicals found in paint. But there is more to being safe around paint than the chemicals - we love pets and kids, but not on the job site, please. You won’t want to be cutting paint out of your beloved cat or dog’s fur or live with fur embedded in your wall, nor would you want to call us back because your little one lost balance and landed on the fresh paint for balance. Accidents can happen at any time, so the best thing to do is have a family member or sitter (or pet sitter) watch them if we’re scheduled to be working. Latex-based paints need at least 4 hours after painting before you want to let children or pets around the painted walls under supervision. The walls will be dry, but the paint will not be cured for approximately 2 weeks.
How do I choose my new interior house paint colors?
Here’s one of our favorite suggestions: go find your favorite object from inside your house. It can be a dish, a vase, a pillow, a piece of art, a flower pot, a coffee mug…. It doesn’t really matter as long as it is something in your home. What color(s) stand out on it? Could these colors be entire walls or would they be better in small areas by providing accents? Next, grab (or print) a color wheel for some inspiration. Opposite colors will give you some intensity, or you can work with closely related colors for subtle changes. We are happy to talk color with you, but we also know that playing with the endless possibilities of new colors for painting the interior of your house is possibly the best part of the process (especially when you know you’ll have experienced professional painters like us to do the rest of the heavy lifting for you for quality results).
What are the best colors to paint the interior of a house if I want to sell it?
People (and painters) get tired of white. Off-white can look very sophisticated in a modern home and is great go-to color. Selection can be difficult with many off-whites on the market, but our professional painters are here to help you in your selection with a tone that fits your home and the other colors you decide on. Right now, the top trending color is a very gray-purple/blue but while it makes a stunning accent wall it may not be as buyer-friendly if they don’t decorate in that color, so we suggest something more silver-gray to stay on trend but also go neutral to paint your house in a way to help it sell. A silver-gray will still have a blue hue to it rather than a drab yellow. For homes that are more brown-russet in color (like carpet), a red-gray can be selected for interior painting. This color is very cozy and warm. If you would like to look at more ideas of color palettes, we have a board on Pinterest full of color ideas: https://www.pinterest.com/trombleypaintng/color-scheme/.
What do I do if I have a chip in my paint and need a touchup?
You can always call us for paint maintenance: (805) 296-3124. You never know when a baseball might go through the drywall and you’ll need a large repair. For the really small stuff, we can leave you with the remaining paint (if any) at your request.
