Five-Day Shop-Spray Process

Full-service cabinet refinishing

A cabinet project from Trombley Painting Company is a five-day process designed to give you a factory-quality finish without the cost or downtime of a full kitchen remodel. We do not paint cabinets in place. In-place painting always shows brush and roller marks, no matter how careful the painter is.

Our shop-spray process removes the doors and drawers, sprays them in a controlled environment in our Paso Robles shop, and reinstalls them on Day 5. The cabinet boxes (the parts that stay in your kitchen) are sanded, primed, and finished in place using fine-finish HVLP equipment for a smooth result.

We label every door and drawer with a numbered system that tracks back to its exact location, then carefully remove them along with all hardware. Doors and drawers are transported to our Paso Robles shop. Your kitchen is fully usable on Day 1, just without doors. Hardware is bagged and labeled.

In the shop, doors and drawers are cleaned to remove kitchen grease and grime. Then they are sanded and deglossed to create a surface the new finish can grip. This step is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that peels. Cabinet boxes in your kitchen get the same treatment in place.

A bonding primer designed for cabinets is applied. This is critical for finishes that hold up to daily kitchen use, especially over factory-finished cabinets where the original sealant resists adhesion. Doors and drawers in the shop, boxes in your kitchen.

Two finish coats of Sherwin-Williams Emerald Trim Enamel and Pro Acrylic Urethane are sprayed on doors and drawers in the shop, and applied with fine-finish HVLP equipment on the cabinet boxes in your kitchen. Color of your choice. Standard sheen options are satin and semi-gloss. The result is a hard, washable, factory-quality finish.

Doors and drawers are returned to your home, the finish is verified to be fully cured, and everything is reinstalled with the original or new hardware. The numbered labeling system means every door goes back exactly where it came from. Walkthrough on Day 5 with you to verify the finish before sign-off.

What Cabinet Painting Should Mean

A full cabinet refinish from Trombley Painting Company is the five-day shop-spray process. We do not offer in-place-only painting for whole kitchens because it does not produce a result we are willing to back with our warranty.

Doors and drawers go to the shop. Boxes are finished in place with fine-finish HVLP. Hardware is removed, the project is completed, and the hardware is reinstalled. The 3-year workmanship warranty starts at the signed walkthrough on Day 5.

Quality Products and Painting Professionals

Sherwin-Williams Emerald Trim Enamel and Pro Acrylic Urethane on every cabinet project. These two products together create a finish that is harder, more chemical-resistant, and more durable than either product alone or any standard latex cabinet paint.

The crew is trained on this specific system. The shop is set up for it. The result is consistent across every project.

Shop-Spray vs. Painted-in-Place

Working with Our Cabinet Painting Team

Our clients choose us because of our shop-spray process. Most painters in San Luis Obispo County paint cabinets in place because it is faster and cheaper. The result has visible brush and roller marks within a few months, and the finish wears unevenly over time. Our shop-spray process produces a factory-quality finish that holds up. Plus the 3-year warranty.

Cabinet Painting FAQs

Three things matter for cabinet painters: shop-spray vs in-place process, the products used, and the warranty. Trombley Painting Company uses a five-day shop-spray process, Sherwin-Williams Emerald Trim Enamel and Pro Acrylic Urethane, and a 3-year workmanship warranty. Compare other quotes against those three things.

A small kitchen costs $4,500 to $5,500. An average kitchen runs $5,500 to $7,500. A large or detailed kitchen runs $7,500 to $12,000. All quotes include the full five-day shop-spray process, all materials, removal and reinstallation, and the 3-year warranty. Get your free estimate today.

Almost always. New cabinets in San Luis Obispo County run $30,000 to $80,000 installed. Cabinet refinishing runs $4,500 to $12,000. If your cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you like the layout, refinishing gives you 90 percent of the visual change for 15 to 20 percent of the cost. Replacement only makes sense if the boxes are damaged or you are reconfiguring the kitchen layout.

Year-round. Cabinet work happens in our climate-controlled Paso Robles shop, so weather does not affect timing. Many homeowners schedule cabinet projects right before holidays or family visits. Lead time is typically two to three weeks during peak season.

Spray finishes do not have brush or roller marks. Brush and roller marks on cabinet doors are visible from across the room and they get worse as the finish wears. A factory-quality cabinet finish has to be sprayed. Spraying in your home means overspray on everything, so we transport doors and drawers to our shop and spray them in a controlled environment.

Most styles. Solid wood, MDF, and properly prepped laminate cabinets all take the Sherwin-Williams Emerald system well. Thermofoil cabinets (a vinyl wrap that delaminates with age) and unfinished raw particleboard are the two materials we typically recommend against painting. We will identify cabinet material during the walkthrough and tell you honestly if refinishing makes sense.
